1. Sado Island

Sado island lies off the coast of Niigata prefecture. Due to its remote island, in the past it was used for the political exiles. Three famous exiles are former Emperor Juntoku, Buddhist monk Nichiren, and the founder of Noh, Zeami Motokiyo. Eventough nowadays no more usage for exile but the culture and religion by these residents brought remain until today. In Sado island, you can learn many things about its culture from the remaining there, you can learn about it from the Sado History Museum that exhibits here by using displays for examples introduction about these three famous exiles, but the information in English still rare. Other side of the museum is dedicated for local late artis Sasaki Shodo for his skills in metal casting, he is appointed as a living national treasure for his invaluable skills as a metal casting artist. In Sado island, there are also a lot of festival by the local, however the most famous one is the Earth Celebration. It is an annual music festival hosted by world acclaimed Kodo Taiko group, with each year featuring different guest star collaborate with Kodo.

2. Imayotsukasa Sake Brewery

Niigata is known as the home of Japanese sake with more than 90 different breweries here. Imayotsukasa Sake Brewery named by its founder Imayo Tsukasa in 1767 in label name KOI. He was famous for the use no additives alcohol, known as pure rice breweries in Japan until today. Along by the touring about the history of sake and the brewery, seeing the antiques tools that used for sake brewing, and also can taste their sake by the end of the tour. no need to worries about the language they use for the tour because the guide can definitely use Japanese and English, so your tour will be no no meaning. 3. Katakai

Katakai actually is a small village in Ojiya City in Niigata. Even tough Niigata is well known with the fireworks festivals, what make Katakai is so special? It because the fireworks in Katakai have a history for 400 years and Katakai used to be home to firework makers, we could say that this is a ancient festivals that remain until now. Moreover, in Katakai festival can painted the night sky with giant wheels of fireworks that only Katakai can do. It is not a surprise Katakai fireworks became the largest in the world.
